Continuing Education & Participant Certificates

Continuing Medical Education Credits for Attendees

The Canadian Society for Transfusion Medicine (CSTM) is committed to providing the highest quality education at its annual conference. To mitigate any potential risk of bias, all speakers who agree to present at the Workshop Sessions and during the Scientific Program must submit a Conflicts of Interest declaration in writing to the CSTM. Additionally, any declared conflicts are disclosed at the beginning of each presentation.

The CSTM recognizes the importance of industry partners in the realm of clinical and laboratory sciences. To ensure that conference registration fees are kept to a minimum, the CSTM Annual Conference Organization Committee solicits and accepts sponsorship from industry partners who are involved in manufacturing transfusion medicine lab equipment, reagents, and blood products. Industry representatives frequently attend the CSTM Annual Conference and may host exhibitor booths. Sponsor logos may also appear throughout the conference in between sessions or on conference materials.

Participant Certificates

All in-person conference attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance from the CSTM Annual Conference to enable Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits to be granted from their respective licensing organizations.  The certificates will be available to print from your profile on the CSTM Dryfta page at the conclusion of the conference.  Detailed communication to follow.

Physicians

In recent years, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) have made the rules regarding sponsorship and advertisement of industry at educational activities more stringent.  Current RCPSC policies have become prohibitively restrictive to facilitate annual Section 1 Group Activity Accreditation, while maintaining industry sponsorship.

Therefore, as of 2024, the CSTM Board has decided not to pursue RCPSC application for group activity accreditation of its annual conference.

Physicians may still claim CSTM Annual Conference CME credits through the Mainport Maintenance of Certification Portal as Section 1 Group Activities, which are non-accredited, with a value of 0.5 credits for each hour of workshop or conference attendance.

Registered Nurses

Nurses attending the CSTM Annual Conference are eligible to claim Nursing Continuing Education (CE) for participation in workshops or conference attendance.  Please consult with provincial nursing licensing bodies for how to document CE.

Medical Laboratory Technologists

MLT staff attending the CSTM Annual Conference are eligible to claim Continuing Education (CE) credits. Please consult with provincial licensing bodies for details with regards to how to enter CE credits earned.
